In the episode of EastEnders that airs on Friday 20 September, Mitchell matriarch Peggy is back baby yeah, and of course, the purpose of her Walford comeback is to visit her son Phil in hospital as he recovers from the horrific car crash that left him fighting for his life.
And as we’ll see, as well as sage words of advice, Peggy (Barbara Windsor) also has a gift for Phil…
The drama begins when Billy (Perry Fenwick) worries that wicked Carl White (Daniel Coonan) is trying to muscle in on Mitchell territory while Phil (Steve McFadden) is out of action. So we’ll see Billy making a mystery phone call.
Later, as Billy tells Phil of his fears over Carl, Phil tells him that he’s on it and has appointed Ronnie Branning (Samantha Womack) to oversee his businesses on the Square while he’s in hospital.
Billy isn’t impressed that Phil didn’t ask him, but he keeps quiet and soon, the nurses come in to remind Phil to do his exercises, but the stubborn Mitchell refuses.
While Phil’s grumbling, Billy steps outside, and he’s just in time to see Peggy stepping out of a cab!
Billy quickly fills her in on Phil’s condition, and when Peggy first lays eyes on her son, she’s upset to see the state he’s in but wastes no time in telling Phil that he needs to pull himself together and get back home to take care of Mitchell business.
Initially, Phil’s hesitant, but Peggy points out that his family need him and he has to step up. Feeling her job at the hospital is done, Peggy then makes to leave, prompting Phil to tell his mum that he still needs her.
Touched, Peggy hands Phil a bag which she says contains a gift for Lexi, but it isn’t until Peggy’s gone that Phil looks inside and see that it also contains the number of the nurse who’s been looking after him.
Phil smiles to himself, but has his mum got through to him?
